Staff briefing

Tensions between Cardassia and Bajor were heating up again. Since the false Kai was discovered, Bajoran territories were restricted to Starfleet entry only. The Bajoran embargo against Cardassian trades were back in place. Bajoran assault vessels opened fire on Cardassian freight and passenger vessels. Major gaps opened in the hierarchy of the Bajoran faith, and all faithful eyes now turn to the human acolyte, spared by the Orb of Serenity.
Commander Darren Rai called a staff briefing in the dimly lit, Cardassian Ready Room with the Federation's new orders. The staff seated themselves at a long, grey table.

"Thank you all for coming. As all of you are at this point aware, we're seeing light space conflict between Bajoran and Cardassian small craft. All diplomatic communications between the two have been shut down.
Obviously the intent of Dr. Mila Tahain was to start another war, and we may very well be looking at one. Starfleet is ready to send in defensive support to Bajor, but we're already seeing increased aggression.
Until extradition is processed, we have Dr. Tahain in custody. I don't believe she and her Ranjen were working alone. She was in deep cover for a while, this much we know."

Lieutenant Inabnet was there, of course, and looking like a completely different half-Vulcan now that she was not under constant assault from all of her traumas. She sat, back straight, hair over her ears, her joined hands settled on the table in front of her, and listened intently to the Commander. She added nothing because she'd already reported to him on everything she knew and thought. T'Pren carefully tried to keep her mind as settled as possible to avoid distracting the Betazoid at the table, which was good because it meant she didn't spend the whole time playing the image of the battle scene the Orb had shown her over and over again in her head.

Akhil listened silently, arms folded over his broad chest. This was not good news, especially if it meant war. He did not wish to wonder about traumatic relapses, and new casualties, and focused only on the what was at hand now. "Will the military force of the station be getting involved?" he asked.

"The Federation wants a small detail of Starfleet ships on defensive patrol. We need to be prepared for the likelihood of combat.
In the meantime, I'm going to be questioning Dr. Tahain. I'm going to find out who hired her to start this war. I'd like Lt. Inabnet to be present during the interrogation.
Dr. Ozan, I'd like you to investigate into the work of Dr. Tahain on Cardassia. Find out what the nature of her role in the occupation was, what her accomplishments were. Lt. Inabnet will be present to help you.
Akhil, the entire senior staff is under orders to meet with you this week. This includes myself."

Well, that was unexpected.

There was a brief rush of anxiety from T'Pren when Rai requested her presence in the interrogation, but then she settled and focused sharply. She was a little nervous, but mostly very gung ho. Through it all, her face barely changed. There was a simple twitch of her Vulcan brow, but nothing more.

"Of course, sir. Should I prepare in any particular way?"

"Bring anything you and Dr. Ozan find with you. Knowledge is our only real leverage with Tahain."

Akhil frowned. He saw that Lieutenant Inabnet's presence was necessary, and he was not going to be one to contradict his commander, but the strain it would but on her already overtaxed mind concerned him.
